Anchuricas Dam – Reservoir – Miller

The Anchuricas Dam was built in 1957, is located in the Segura riverbed, in the Andalusian municipality of Santiago-Pontones, province of Jaén and belongs to the Confederación Hidrográfica del Gegura.

The Segura River rises in the hamlet of Fuente Segura, 5 km from Pontón Bajo in the municipality of Santiago-Pontones (Jaén). Runs through the provinces of Jaén, Albacete, Murcia and Alicante. Flows into the Mediterranea in Guardamar del Segura (Alicante), after a journey of 325 km and a catchment area of 19.525 km2.

The landscape of the basin is surrounded by high peaks and limestone quarries, whose slopes vast forest of pine trees that reach the water´s edge with a dense undergrowth of aromatic plants develop.

The landscape of the valley of the Segura River in this area is impressive with an abrupt relief caused bt the narrowing of the river and cut streams flowing down from the summits, whose morphology is spectacular.

On its banks are the villages of Toba and Las Casicas del Rio Segura.

Santiago-Pontones Municipality

Santiago-Pontones is located in the extreme northeast of the province of Jaén. The town emerged in 1975 with the union of two population centers: Santiago de la Espada and Pontones. The municipality represents a third of the Natural Park of Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas.

The access road to Pontones and Santiago de la Espada is the regional A-317, which connects us to the northwest with Hornos, Cortijos Nuevos, La Puerta de Segura and the N-322 at the height of Puente de Génave, and to the southeast with La Puebla de Don Fadrique, already in the province of Granada.
