Jimera de Libar – Church of Nuestra Señora del Rosario

The Church of Nuestra Señora del Rosario is located at the Plaza Virgen de la Salud (square), near the town hall, in the Andalusian town of Jimera de Libar. Church of Nuestra Señora del Rosario - Jimera de Libar

The church of Jimera de Libar was built at the beginning of the 16th Century, after the fall of Ronda and the Christian conquest of the Serranía Area. Nevertheless, the temple we see today is a recent building built in 1964 in the same place as the first church and an old cemetery, probably a Muslim cemetery.

The inside is made of a main nave and an auxiliary nave located on the right side of the temple. On the entrance door we find the choir. The main altar is crowned by a Jesus Christ. Other important images are those of the Virgin de la Salud and Saint Roque, patron saints of Jimera de Líbar.

From the external part we can highlight the robustness of the building and the architectural simplicity, except for the belfry which holds the two bell, located on the left of the pediment and crowned by an angel-shaped weathercock.
