Jimera de Libar – The Fountain

After the Christian conquest of the Serrania, the settlement changed its Arab name of Inz- Almaraz (Castle of the Woman) to Jimera de Libar, and it was exactly here, in this fountain, that the first written testimony to the origin of the current name of the village was found, engraved into Stone.

The fountain, which we can date to 1789 by its inscription, was until recent times a basic part of the infrastructure of Jimera de Libar. The fountain provided the drinking and cooking water for the village, its trough gave animals somewhere to drink, and the surplus water was used for washing clothes. It was also an important place for socializing and business, both for the locals and passers-through.
