Priego de Córdoba – Adolfo Lozano Sidro Cultural Center
Cultural Center of Adolfo Lozano Sidro
Adolfo Lozano Sidro´s Home and Museum: This museum exhibits a wide range of the works by the artist Adolfo Lozano Sidro: he was born in Priego in 1872 an he spent much time in this house, where he died in 1935. He was considered one of the greatest illustrators of his age, and published most of his work in the magazine Blanco y Negro.
The museum houses more than 70 original works by the painter, and a generous collection of drawings and sketches. On the first floor, as well as a selection of portraits and paintings with oriental and religious themes, there is a series of illustrations representing everyday scenes and characters typical of Andalusia in the early part of the 20th century.
This work is in marked contrast to the scenes of high society and life in the salons and theatres of Madrid, so popular with many of his contemporaries. Works to look out for are Escena de Carnaval, En la feria de Priego or Tertulia en el café.
On the second floor, we can visit the rooms used by the painter during his time in Priego. Of particular interest is the studio, where his easels, painteing materials, as well as sketches, souvenirs and unfinished works are exhibited, all set up as they were when Lozano Sidro died.
