Setenil de las Bodegas Old Town Hall
Old Town Hall
The Old Twon Hall is located in the town center of Setenil de las Bodegas, near the Castle. This is a rectangular shaped building, possibly built at the beginning of the 16th century. It is remarkable because it has a fine wooden ceiling with a criss-cross of ribs or beams of even number, forming boxes with corner pieces, a tracery typical of Mudejar art (which is about the Moslems who converted to the Christian faith and lived under Christian rule). On the lower beam, an inscription can be read, which commemorates the date on which the Catholic King and Queen conquered Setenil form the Spanish Moslems on the 21st September, 1484.
At present this building has been renovated in order to be used as a Tourist Office, where the wooden ceiling is on display for visitors. The importance of this piece stems from the fact that it is the only one of similar characteristics that has been conserved in the whole province of Cadiz.
