Alcaucín, Axarquía Region

The town of Alcaucín is located in the side of Sierra de Tejeda dominating the Axarquía, the corridor of Periana and the gorge of the hole in Zafarraya. Surrounded by hills with olive trees, vineyards and pines, Alcaucín has the typical appearance of the involved white towns in La Axarquía. In this town we can find Neanderthal human remains, but it was during the Muslim Age when the area started to be inhabited like we can observe in the remains of the castle of Zalía.
