Parish Church of San Sebastian

The Parish Church of San Sebastian is located at the San Sebastián Square, just few minutes from the Santiago Apostol and the San Pedro churches in the Andalusian monumental city of Almeria.

Construction began in 1673, and in 1883 the baptistery and parish buildings were added. It had to be rebuilt in 1940. With a Latin cross plan, it has three naves separated by pillars on which semicircular arches and an entablature of mixed-line moldings protrude progressively. The roofs are half-barrel in the central nave and ridged in the lateral ones. A dome rises over the transept that rides on the keystones of four large arches and pendentives, ornate by ellipsodial windows. Above, a lantern that rides on a cylindrical drum.

The facing is brick, combined with ashlar masonry on the façade. This shows the tower on the left, and it is divided into three axes. The central axis has a semicircular arch portal with simple archivolts, on which a lintel flanked by paired Corinthian columns is superimposed. Above it is a high-relief of the saint and a vain trellis in the form of a semicircular point.
