Aracena – Santa Catalina Church

Santa Catalina Church is located in the Plaza Marquesa de Aracena (square), in the Andalusian town of Aracena, province of Huelva, Spain.

The primitive medieval chapel was turned into a convent by the Order of the Barefoot Carmelites in 1536, a congregation which still occupies the building. It is a Mudejar style building with thre transverse arch and apse with ribbed vault to which a dressing room was added in the baroque stage.

The church´main brick portal has an equilateral pointed arch with three archivolts and an alfiz (Moorish panel). The classical style portal situated on the left side was built at teh end of the 16th century or at the beginning of the 17th century.
