Arcos de la Frontera Hospital of Charity
Hospital of Charity – Arcos de la Frontera
The Hospital of Charity is locate at the Plaza de la Caridad (Square), near the Peña Flamenca of Arcos and just few minutes from the San Miguel Bridge, in the Andalusian town of Arcos de la Frontera, province of Cadiz.
An architectural complex built in the second half of the eighteenth century. The octagonal church is flanked by two large square courtyards limited from the outside by walls with a wavy, mixtilinear finish. It communicates with the interior via a portico of three semicircular arches on columns and a wrought iron gate. Twin belfries are located in front of the dome. The courtyards preserve two entrances finished with triangular pediment, but the one on the left is incomplete. The church is done in colonial style and is perhaps one of the most pleasant surprises that Arcos has in store for us. The interior of the church is oval and of elegant proportions, featuring some interesting Italian images and the Virgin of Charity in the altarpiece, with a chapel of colored glass and mirrors.
