Cabra – La Nava Polje
La Nava de Cabra Polje
The plain surrounding us represents a magnificent polje, a great closed karstic depression periodically flooded. It is included in the national wetland inventory. Several flat stepped surfaces in the plain margin indicate the tiem evolution of the polje bottom. In the past, these fertile lands were cultivated but today they are aminly used for livestock.
Until 2012, no ponor was known in the Nava, but in November of that year, a spectacular hole suddenly appeared. Since then, it “swallows” part of the river water. From a hydrogeological point of view, this is a very interesting event, as it modifies the Cabra aquifer dynamic.
