Canillas de Aceituno extends over the slopes of the Sierra Tejeda, to the north of the comarca (region) of Axarquia. It is surrounded by the la Maroma peak and the peak of Fuerte and Rompealbaldas. Canillas is a Moorish village, where the grapevine was the main crop, and still is an important element in the landscape and the economy. The only remains of Arabic origin which are preserved in the village are a well near the existing fuente del Huertezuelo and the Torre de la Reina Mora.
Location
Canillas is to the northeast of the Axarquia, 17 km distant from Vélez Málaga and 53 km from the capital of the province. The village is about 650 metres above sea level, records an average rainfall of 670 l/m2 and the average annual temperature is 17 º C

One of the most traditional dishes in Canillas de Aceituno is the kid roasted in a wook-fired oven, also in the municipality is traditional the black pudding with onion, kid with almond sauce, fennel stew, etc.
Directions
From the Autovia Mediterraneo (A-7, N-340) linked, in the direction of Velez Malaga, to the A-335, which is a road along the backbone of the Axarquia. After about 10 kilometres, you will see the turning to the MA-125, which leads directly to the town.
