Carratraca Bull Ring

The Carratraca Bull Ring, which is located outside the town centre, is another local example of buildings constructed to complement the leisure activities of 19th century tourism. Partly dug in to the rock face of the Ermita hill, the bull ring is not totally circular, but was allowed, because of its characteristics, to conduct bullfights. The middle clas who spent their summer holidays in the local spa liked the bullfights.

Nowadays, the Carratraca bull ring is used at Easter time as a stage for the Passion of Jesus. This is a popular show played by the locals which represents the Passion of Christ with all the drama from the theatre.
