The Cartaya Castle or Fortress of the Zúñiga is located west of the town center, on a hill htat dominated all access to the population, in the C/ Arenal (street) on the town of Cartaya, in the province of Huelva, a few minutes from the Town Hall and the San Pedro Parish Church.
Build in the fitteenth century to defend the passage of ships along the River Piedras, it led to the growth of the town nowadays known as Cartaya. Rectangular, walled and with seven large square fortified towers, it was also a cemetery.
