Castilblanco de los Arroyos

Castilblanco de los Arroyos is located in the northwest quadrant of the province of Sevilla, in the foothills of the Sierra Norte. In 1996 it had a population of 4,457 inhabitants. The town sits between two mounds, situated to the northeast and southwest, forming part of the Sierra de El Pedroso.

Although the first documented occurrence is after the Christian conquest carried out by Fernando III, in the divisions that are made of Sevilla, its origins is during Roman times.
In the XIV century it is mentioned in the “Book of Hunting” (Libro de Montería), by Alfonso XI.
During the Middle and Modern Ages it was important as the entrance towards Castile by the road between Castilblanco and Almadén de la Plata.

In the 50’s and 60’s its economy, mainly agrarian, was based largely on the palm industry, thanks to the great demand that had been exported to countries of Central and Eastern Europe.

Castilblanco de los Arroyos Gastronomy

Some of the most typical dishes in Castilblanco de los Arroyos are salmorejo, las venteras, crumbs, pestorejo, sopeao, ayuyas or the classic tapas bars are the important part of the cuisine, not to mention pork products.

As for their desserts include pestiños, piñonates, tortas sobás, gañotes, tortas de manteca o las rosas, all with great tradition, the locals have been preserved from generation to generation.

You have to exit Sevilla and take: A-3102, alleyway of La Rinconada and Alcalá del Río. Then you enter Castilblanco de los Arroyos.
