Conil de la Frontera – Church of Nuestra Señora de las Virtudes

The Church of Nuestra Señora de las Virtudes (Church of Our Lady of Virtues), is located next to the town hall building, in the Constitution Square, in the Andalusian town of Conil de la Frontera, Cadiz.Church of Nuestra Señora de las Virtudes (Church of Our Lady of Virtues) - Conil de la Frontera

In 1567 the Franciscan Order of the “Friars Minimal of San Francisco de Paula” founded this convent under the patronage of D. Juan Alonso Pérez de Guzmán, Duke of Medina Sidonia and Lord of the Villa of Conil.

In the same place where an old hermitage stood, this church was built to worship the image of Our Lady of Virtues, Patron of the village. The fundamental and oldest construction is from the second half of the 16th century, such as the central nave, the sacristy and the stairs. The facade and bell tower are of the early seventeenth century, work of Fray Luis Vázquez de Dueñas.

The Church of Nuestra Señora de las Virtudes (Church of Our Lady of Virtues) is of a single ship with plant of latin cross and side chapels attached. The cruise is covered by a vault carved in sandstone and in its center, presiding over the main altar, is the coat of arms of the Ducal House of Medina Sidonia.

Also known as Sata Catalina Parish.
