Encinas Reales

Encinas Reales – Cordoba – Andalusia

To the south of the province of Cordoba, in the area bordering the province of Granada, stands Encinas Reales, 4 kilometers north of Benamejí. Encinas serves as the southern gate of La Subbética, channeling the route from Cordoba to the Costa del Sol, and is without doubt one of the busiest routes, come summer.

The municipality limits with Badolatosa, Rute, Benamejí y Cuevas Bajas.

The real name of the village was that of Encinas Ralas, probably because of the scattered holm oaks. Over time the name has become the current Encinas Reales.

Its first inhabitants settled here in the early seventeenth century and were farmers from Lucena who came to work under the Duke of Medinaceli. Thus the village arose, until 1836, when it had its own Ayuntimiento, under the jurisdiction of Lucena.

Encinas Reales Gastronomy

Braised potatoes. Homemade meatballs. Perol (made on the first day of hunting with all the pieces hunted, chop all the meat, fry with garlic, bay leaf, oil and wine). Bolitas at Palomar (dough filled with meat). Solomillos (tenderloins) “al Gran Senor”.
Sweets: Hornazos. Oil cakes. Arresoli (a drink made with dry anise and coffee).

Follow directions: Exit 408 – Malaga. Continue: A-45. Take the exit towards: N-331. At the roundabout, take exit 3 Continue: N-331 heading to Fernan Nunez – Montemayor. Pass through and continue to Fernan Nuñez: A-45 / N-331. Pass near Aguilar and enter Encinas Reales.
