Farajan – Church of Nuestra Señora del Rosario
Church of Nuestra Señora del Rosario – Farajan
The Church of Nuestra Señora del Rosario is located in the Plaza de Andalucía (square), near the town hall, in the Andalusian town of Farajan, province of Malaga.
The Church of Nuestra Señora del Rosario in Farajan was built in the 16th Century on the remains of and old mosque. Subsequently it has undergone several improvements, the most important ones in the 18th and 20th centuries.
The church has a squared ground plan and it is composed of a nave covered by a plain ceiling and a chapel with plasterwork on the right side, called the Epistle Side. Small niches are opened in the side walls with images of Saints worshiped and cared by different families in Farajan.
From its external architecture we can highlight the tower with the belfry, made of three bodies, made of brick and covered by a metal roof. There is proof of the existence of a second tower which disappeared after an earthquake.
The main altar is separated from the rest of the nave by some stairs and it is crowned by a Jesus Christ. Both sides of the temple we find images of Saint Sebastian and the Immaculate Virgin, patrons of Faraján.
