Fuengirola – Our Lady of El Carmen Church – 20th century

Our Lady of El Carmen Church is located near the town hall and the Parque de España (Park), in Fuengirola. It is one of the most important monuments of the municipality along with the Sohail Castle the Roman Archaeological Site Finca El Secretario and the Our Lady of El Rosario Parish Church.

The church of El Carmen, also known as the “The park´s parish”, is a recent construction from the end of the 20th century. Its interior is wide, modern, cosy and diaphanous.

The image of the Virgin of El Carmen – a magnificent carving by Álvarez Duarte – has an important place in the hearts of the faithful.

Each July 16th, the Virgin is shouldered in procession to the sea, as a show of devotion, and as a symbol of Fuengirola´s maritime tradition.
