Guadalhorce & Guadalteba Dams
The Guadalhorce and Guadalteba Dams and reservoir can be founded in the municipalities of Teba, Campillos and Antequera. The dams are located on the rivers Guadalhorce and Guadalteba respectively, in the province of Málaga. Also theses dams are very close to the Gaitanejo Dam in the municipality of Ardales.
The Guadalteba Dam did not begin to dam water until october 1971, Guadalhorce Dam did in June 1973.
Along with the Conde de Guadalhorce Dam & Reservoir regulating the upstream waters of the Guadalhorce, constituting the headworks of the “Plan Guadalhorce”, with the following objectives:
* Improvement and expansion of the irigation in the Hoya de Málaga
* Supply to the city
* Increased electricity production
Its basin covers an area of 1.014 km2 and has an annual average contribution of 59 hm3.
The type of dam is loose material, with core and its plant is mixed with various lineups.
The reservoir has a volume of 126 hm3 and an area of 780 hectares. The affected river length is 19 km.
Its spillway is located in (side on right abutment Guadalteba), type (front, 4 bays with doors). The lip cota is 356 meters and the dscharge length of 44 m
Its basin covers an area of 417 km2 and has an annual average contribution of 52 hm3.
The type of dam is loose material, with core and its plant is mixed with various lineups. It has a height above foundation of 84 m.
The reservoir has a volume of 153 hm3 and a surface of 775 hectares. The affected river length is 17 km.
Its spillway is locate in (side on right abutment Guadalteba), type (Front, 4 bays, with doors). The lip cota is 356 meters and the discharge length of 44 m.
The Guadalhorce and Guadalteba dams join the waters with the Conde de Guadalhorce dam, wich are reflected in the Gaitanejo dam, before they entering in the Gaitanes canyon.
The Guadalhorce, Guadalteba and Conde de Guadalhorce dams are located few meters from each other, making it easy to visit their closed and also enjoy beautiful views of the stunning natural landscape. Entertainment venues to have a good weekend, water sports, pedal boats, accommodations, restaurants, etc.
