Los Castillejos de Alcorrin Archaeological Site Manilva
Los Castillejos de Alcorrin Archaeological Site
The Archaeological Site of Los Castillejos de Alcorrin is located in the Andalusian municipality of Manilva, wester border of the Malaga province, about 25 kilometres from Gibraltar and few minutes from the Mediterranean coast, above of the Arroyo Alcorrin, near de Alcorrin Dam.
It is a fortified settlement with a powerful wall surrounding the compound, with circular bastions at one of their foreheads. Interventions have allowed us to date the early first millennium. C., therefore, be ascribed to a cultural horizon of the Late Bronze Age.
The best known element is the wall, and its the most documented norther sector, which has found it relies directly on the natural soil, except in areas in which to bridge the gap a claw or base of large masonry is built. Instead, the west is the most monumental, because being part of easier access to a reinforcement of the wall is done, to ensure safety. On the other hand, this sector is one of the most interesting because it links with another stretch of the wall by a bastion with a very unique plant.
In the grounds, for the period to which it is attached, stands a stretch of wall that would connect with possible advaced tower that serves a dual funtion, on the one hand facilitate access to an aquifer located at the food of the tower, which guaranteed water supply, and on the other hand the defense from one of the throughs.
Studies indicate that the predominant technique in the perimeter building was masonry, is generally larger inside and filled based small gravel. Such interventions also have detected a level of Roman chronology of low power that was silted up by a landslide on a powerful unit dating back to the late sixth century…..
On October 1, 2016, we attended a guided visit to the Archaeological Site of Los Castillejos de Alcorrin, a great expedition of people from Manilva, Estepona and other nearby locations could enjoy the world of archeology in situ.
