San Juan de Dios Parish Church

The San Juan de Dios Parish Church and Hospital is located in the town of Lucena, coming down Street Calzada or going up Antonio Eulate Street, just few minutes from the Parish of Nuestra Señora del Carmen.

Of Baroque style, it is important the marble main front and its beautiful clister. This main front is one of the most spectacular in the province of Córdoba and it was built by José de Bada y Navajas and the quarryman of Lucena, Lorenzo Vicente del Pino Ascanio. XVIII century.

The Church and Hospital San Juan de Dios de Lucena was built by the Hospitaller Order of St. John the Baptist in 1747 by them general of the Order, the Lucena Fray Alonso de Jesus Ortega, who asked his execution to the artists who had performed theSan Juan de Dios Parish Church - Lucena Basilica and Hospital of San Juan de Dios in Granada.

Access is backed by a superb polychrome marble facade from the region, prepared by Pino Ascanio brothers.

The church has a nave with a barrell vault with lunettes, culminating in a dome decorated with plasterwork. He presides over the altar a beautiful altarpiece by Francisco José Guerrero. It is one of the most complete unit in Lucena for the pictorial and sculptural wealth.

The hospital is built around a large central courtyard, which is lower cloister is decorated with manises tiles. Today is a residence for senior age.

Remarquons le portail de marbre et le beau cloitre de cette église baroque. Le portail, l´un des plus spectaculaires de la province de Cordoue du point de vue architectural, fut exécuté, selon les plans de José de Bada y Navajas, par le maitre carrier local Lorenzo Vicente del Pino Ascanio. XVIIIe siècle.
