Malaga Sagasta 5 Guerrero Strachan
Edificio Sagasta 5 Guerrero Strachan – Málaga
This building (Edificio) that can be found on Sagasta number 5 on the corner with Herrería del Rey has been attributed to Málaga´s architect Guerrero Strachan although it has been realised by Daniel Rubio in 1925 according to the architect Enrique Atencia.
The plot is irregular and narrow and the house adapts itself to a corner forming a type of keel. What is most outstanding is its circular tower in the corner that forms the centre-point of the house ans has a great variety of ornamental formulas below the windows.
Whit regard to style, it belongs to the trend of local eclectic regionalism that was born as an alternative to modernism withing the context of searching for a representative architecture for the city. Although this building is from the beginnning of the 20th century, we must remember that the neo-Moorish forms enjoyed and enormous success in western architecture as from the 18th century and especially Romanticism.
Oher examples of this style in the city are the Cele María villa in the Paseo de Sancha number 44 and the facade of number 4 on Sánchez Pastor.
