The village of Montoro is situated on a rocky spine or outcrop, surrounded by a large meander of the River Guadalquivir. The village is of ancient lineage and is a hamlet of steep labyrinthine streets, which for its architectural value has, in 1969, been listed as Conjunto Historico – Artistico.

Its rich architectural heritage, the gastronomy, the Natural Park, Montoro crafts, folklore and typical rural houses and old oil mills offer visitors a wide and varied choice that, together with the warm reception of Montoreños and will make them feel at home.

Communications

Montoro is located 43 km to the east of centre of Cordoba, close to the Autovia de Andalucia, and has one of the best communication systems by road, via the Autovia, making the driving time to Cordoba twenty minutes, two hours to Seville and to Madrid three or so, also by rail on the Madrid-Cadiz and Madrid-Seville (AVE). and a meander of the Guadalquivir river that surrounds the village on three of its four sides and divides it into two parts, joining the Barrio (neighbourhood) of Retamar by the bridge of las Donadas (XV-XVI centuries).

With regard to the communication network, Montoro is at a crossroads, where, close to the village centre are the National Highway IV and the railway line Madrid-Cadiz. To these roads can be added the N-420 (Cordoba, Tarragona, Cuenca) which pass through the municipality lengthwise, the CO-414 which runs from Montoro towards the north of the Sierra and Extremadura, the CO-511 towards theprovince of Jaen and the C-329 in the direction ofLa Campina and the south of the province.
