Ojén – Chorros Fountain

The Chorros Fountain is located in the Andalucía Square, next to Ntra. Sra. de la Encarnación Church and just few minutes from the Mill Museum, in the town of Ojén.

This fountain, in picturesque Andalucía Square, built on the site of a former fountain in the XIX century is an essential reference point.

It is the pride of the town. In the past, everybody would come here to fill pitchers and jugs to take water to their homes.

A symbol of our town. It is a drinking fountain with five spouts built in 1905 under the instructions of Pedro Sánchez, and was also used an the beginning of the XX century as a water trough. After passing through the fountain, the water flows through channels of Arabic origins to be used in the terraced vegetable gardens that surround the town.

Pascual Madoz, in his famous “Geographical – Statistical – Historical Dictionary of Spain and its Overseas Possessions, published towards the middle of the XIX century, indicates the existence of several springs in the mountains and specifies the location of a fountain in the centre of the villaje square.

Today, its echo still fills the square with joy and visitors find it difficult to overcome the desire to try its waters.
