Osuna – Incarnation Square
Incarnation Square – Osuna
The Incarnation Square is located between the Collegiate Church of Our Lady of the Assumption and the Monastery of the Incarnation, few minutes from the University and the Church and Tower of La Merded, in the Andalusian town of Osuna, province of Seville.
It is located closet o the convent of the Mercedarias founded under this order in the first third of the 17th century. The Monastery was built on the property of the hospital which was founded by the fourth count of Ureña.
Many years ago, all of the brotherhoods had to carry out their stations of penance at the Nuestra Señora de la Asuncion distinguished collegiate church. As such, this square used to receive all of the processions as they climbed to the town´s highest point. Some brotherhoods still hold this tradition, meaning that the square still plays an important role during Osuna´s Easter Week and some of the most touching moments take place here.
