Pimentel Watchtower

Pimentel Watchtower is located in C/ Cuesta del Tajo (street), just few minutes from San Miguel Arcángel Church, in Torremolinos.

Of reduced construction, its defensive position resembles that of other Muslim fortresses on the coast, such as Fuengirola, Salobreña or Almuñecar. Its shape is almost a rectangular prism, since the dimensions at its base 7.20 mx 6.10 m have little variation with those of the roof parapet 6.63 mx 5.05 m. The tower is approximately twelve meters high, its lower body, half of its total height, is completely solid. Its main axis is oriented from north to south, and its primitive entrance is formed by a hole, sheltered by a curved brick lintel, which opens in the center of its eastern wall. This opening allowed access to a 3.18 m high floor with a 5 m x 4.1 m floor plan that is divided into two unequal rooms separated by an arch with a span of 1.88 m. The smaller room of 2.79×1.22 has a large window that allows you to watch the sea. A 70 cm staircase starts from the largest room. partially covered by a barrel vault, in which a section and two corners, with a scarf, save the height of the terrace.

On the second floor we find a division into three spaces in the transverse direction, the central one, 95 cm, is a continuation of a plateau of the staircase and serves as an entrance to two narrow and elongated rooms, a room and a place for observation of the lookouts. . At 2.63 m from the flooring, these spaces are covered with mirror and barrel vaults, with transverse arches. Finally, the 5.63 mx 4.55 m roof terrace has 93 cm parapets. high and 50 thick, the machicolations having been removed. The landing of the stairway opens in the southwest corner.
