    About Los Alcornocales Natural Park

    Provinces of Cádiz and Málaga.

    Los Alcornocales Natural Park is a complex of mountains where, in an excellent state of conservation, the largest cork oak grove on the Iberian Peninsula develops.

    Basic data of the space:

    Statement: 28th of July 1989

    Location: Between the provinces of Cádiz and Málaga, forming a strip that leads from the interior of the ffoothills of the Cádiz mountains to the beaches of Tarifa.

    Surface: 173,619.52 hectares.

    Other figures of protection and awards that fall in space:

    2003: included in the Inventory of Protected Natural Areas of Andalusia as a Special Protection Area for Birds (ZEPA).

    2004: adhered to the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism (CETS), renewed in 2010.

    2006: included in the List of Places of Community Importance (LIC) and revised in successive decisions.

    2006: UNESCO declares the Mediterranean Intercontinental Biosphere Reserve, made up of this natural park together with other Andalusian protected areas.

    2012: declared a Special Conservation Zone (ZEC).

    2017: extension of the territorial scope of the natural park.
