Segura de la Sierra – Jesuits Church

The Jesuits Church is located at the Jesuits Square, attached to the Nuestra Señora del Collado Church, center of Segura de la Sierra town.

It was built attached to the parish church in the last quarter of the 16th century by the quarryman Juan García. The first Mass was officiated on March 25t in 1593 and the altarpices date from 1603. It is placed at the foot of the temple with a facade in the Renaissance style and has Latin cross floor plan. In the transept thre are four semicircular arches resting on entablature and edging pilasters. The chancel is covered with a semicircular vault. Its buttresses and spherical dome are made of tufa stone.

The presence of the Jesuits in Segura is mainly due to Mr. Cristóbal Rodriguez de Moya, founder of the School of San Pedro and San Pablo de Segura, which remained as the residence of the Society of Jesus until 1767.
