Segura de la Sierra – Nuestra Señora del Collado Church

Nuestra Señora del Collado Church is located a the Plaza de los Jesuitas 1 (Jesuitas Square), in the town of Segura de la Sierra, Jaén.

The church started to be built from the decade of the 1520s onwards upon a previous temple and the warks lasted most of this century. After its fire in 1810 the roof was rebuilt by Mr. Sebastián Azuaga in 1814 who also added the two brackets on the columns of the facade.

It has one nave covered with vault, opening three chapels in the floor plan. Outside it is remarkable the quadrangular tower built in masonry with a second section for the bells which ends with octagonal pyramid. Its two fronts open with semicircular arches, presenting one of them a coat of arms with the Cross of Santiago. The image of the Virgin of La Peña is inside, carved in alabaster in the gothic style and the Recumbent Christ attributed to the image maker Mr. Gregorio Fernández. Mr Francisco de Luna and Mr. Andrés de Valdelvira are amont those quarrymen who worked in Segura de la Sierra.
