Sotiel Olivargas Dam was built in 1982 on the bed of the Olivargas river, in the municipality of Almonaster la Real, province of Huelva, Andalucia, Spain.

Sotiel Olivargas is a gravity dam type and curve plant with a height from foundations of 45 meters and a crest lenght of 191,11 meters.

The Sotiel Olivargas Reservoir belong to the Tinto, Odiel and Piedras River Basin and has a capacity of 28 hm3.Sotiel Olivargas Dam & Reservoir

Almonaster la Real

Almonaster la Real is a village situated in the centre of the Natural Park of Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Aroche, one of the most important protected areas of the Community. The park occupies the entire north of the province with its meadows and small hills covered predominantly by forests oaks, oaks, chestnut trees and undergrowth, through which run numerous streams, forming a landscape of extraordinary beauty.

The origins of the settlement in the municipality of Almonaster La Real are documented in the Copper Age (III millennium BC) with the Dolmen de la Peña del Hombre, next to the Odiel river. From the Bronze Age (II millennium BC) there are vestiges of habitat in the Cerro de San Cristóbal and in the cist necropolises of Becerrero, Cerro del Moro, Gil Márquez and Tapazuelas. Read more…..
