The Tahal Castle is located on Avenida Tierno Galvan, in the Almerian town of Tahal.
Fortress tha the Enríquez ordered to be built on the site of an old Muslim fortress. Fortress that together with others were the cause of dispute between Almotamid (King of Seville) and Almotacin (King of Almería).
In the old Muslim fortress was the garrison of the Kunya Tribe, in the Almohad period at the end of the 12th century. It has been in use and inhabite until the mid-eighteenth century. In the Madoz Cadastre, a castle is mentioned in a good estate of defense, with cisterns, tahonas, stables and granaries, property of the Duke of Abrantes.
The tower is rectangular in size, measures 17.4 meters by 13.50 meters. Solid base supports two floors of thick masonry walls.
In the eighteenth century (1750), in the Catastro fe la Ensenada appears the castle surrounded by walls. Proof that once there was a pit, which is also ratified by the fact of having the front door at a considerable height.
