Trail El Picacho
Trail El Picacho – Istán
Perhaps one of the most interesting and easy ascents in the Sierra Blanca, El Picacho is the mountain visible to the southeast from the hotel. Its characteristic shape with its rock face, its steep summit and especially its size gives this peak its name. As soon as you start walking, you will be able to see the mule path leading up the mountain, which starts from behind the water tank. It is not, as it may seem at first glance, a very steep slope, but quite the opposite.
As you walk uphill you will realise how easily you gain height, until you reach what looks like a col, but is not, from where you will see the highest point of this walk, to the left. From the summit, which is more like a precipitous ledge suspended in the air, you will see the entire village spread out below you. To the left, you will see the Sierra Real and, in the background, emphasizing the characteristically grey limestone mountains, the highest peaks of the Sierra de la Nieves.
Warning: the walk ends at the mountain pass. The ascent to the summit of El Picacho is steep, there is no footpath, and it is possible to fall over the edge.
